A Busy Year Ahead

Wow! I can’t believe I might squeeze in a little time to write this blog post. Technically, I’m writing this while also putting together a website project proposal.  Whew! I scare my own self sometimes.  Guys, I’ve been so busy lately it’s insane. Let’s just start with the biggest thing that has transpired…we had a baby boy in September.  I was pregnant for most of 2013, with a difficult pregnancy.  But in the end, we had a healthy little boy, who is loved by many.

I love my son, but am so glad that the pregnancy is over. From the day I went into labor until now, things have never slowed down. I was literally emailing clients from the hospital bed. Crazy, I know! When you work for yourself there are no auto responses. Nonetheless, we have been enjoying life with 2 kids. As my Dad would say, “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

In other news, during my pregnancy, I had resolved to do something with my love of painting furniture and hunting for old furniture.  I originally thought maybe I would setup a booth somewhere or start an Etsy shop to sell some things. I know what I love doing and was hoping to monetize it in some way or another. Oddly enough, just a few weeks after I had the baby, a good friend of mine asked me to accompany her to lunch. She was currently doing exactly what I would have loved to do, so I was excited about what she wanted to discuss. Maybe she would be opening a storefront and was looking for vendors? That’s not what she said but it was still exciting news. She had gotten an offer to style a vintage wedding with her furniture and wanted to know if I would assist.  And so I did and we had a great time along the way.

And from that one meeting and a vague idea, a business was born. Welcome…

The Vintage Company is a vintage styling and furniture rental business, serving Houma, La and surrounding areas. Our goal is to bring “vintage flair” to weddings, anniversary parties, baby showers and similar events. We endeavor to connect with the area’s best wedding vendors to help them meet the demand of the vintage/rustic bride. We have handpicked every item that is in our inventory and hope to share our special items with others.  This business is a true combination of things that both Mandy and I love so I can’t wait to see where it takes us.  Stay tuned for future updates on this new venture!

And just to change up the conversation one more time, has anyone got great goals planned for the new year (aka new years resolutions)…organize your house, exercise more, maybe loose weight, or start a new business? Well, I don’t make new years resolutions per say, but the new year is definitely time for a fresh start.  It is a great time to put new systems into place and adopt new ways of doing things. With all the extra madness around here, a new baby and another business, I’m trying to organize and clean every inch of my home. And I’m not just cleaning and putting everything back on the shelf.  Marian at Miss Mustard Seed recently wrote about living with what you love and that really resonated with me. She talks about surrounding yourself with things that inspire you and only keeping those items that you really love. I’m really trying to hold true to that idea.  Since I’ll be involved in a creative business, it’s important that I not get complacent with my surroundings. So, that’s my plans for the next few weeks, clean, organize, only keep what I love.
