Say Hello to Summer with a Summer Sizzle

It’s here! It’s here! The very first day of summer! I’ve been talking about this season since winter. Yes, I was excited about spring but summer is my favorite season. There is something in the air that I just can’t get enough of. You can’t see it but summer has an infectious way about itself. Summer makes you smile more, forces you to enjoy it’s longer days, and engulfs you in it’s warm embrace. Maybe it’s the summer vacations, the kids being out of school, or BBQ’s in the backyard with your favorite people. Whatever it is, it’s always good.  Believe me, I know how hot summer can get. I live in Louisiana and we are almost hot year round. Ha! It doesn’t matter to me. I’m here for it all!

To kick summer off right, I’ve partnered with some other lovely bloggers to bring you a summer party crash tour. It’s full of summer entertaining tips, recipes, and more. If you’re visiting from Ola from J’Adore le Décor, then welcome! Ola is the party host and did a wonderful job showing us how to host a lovely soiree on your patio. It’s definitely got me thinking about what kind of entertaining I can do outdoors. In addition, I’ve got a new refreshing summer cocktail to share with you. I promise it’s refreshing, good, and will have you happy that it’s summer!

I’m calling this fruity cocktail a Summer Sizzle. It features some ingredients you may already have in your home bar like grenadine, vodka, and orange juice. Because of the way we layered the ingredients (see recipe for proper steps) it has a layered/gradient look like the Blue Hawaiian cocktail. Since we pour the grenadine in last it floats to the bottom of the glass and turns a red/orange color.

There is nothing like a pretty drink.

Well, there is pretty food so I guess that’s all a matter of opinion.

There’s another feature of making drinks that’s actually my favorite part. That’s the garnish, straws, and cocktail napkins. These items add style to your drink and are so easy to incorporate. Be sure to pick these items up when you’re out making groceries or are on a summer Target run (check the Target Dollar Spot). Being mindful of having the proper items on hand to make drinks will make you successful. You won’t have a full bar and all the proper accessories overnight. It takes time and you have all summer.

“But Crystal, making cocktails intimidates me.” My answer is “Not this summer.”

Grab a tall glass, all the ingredients listed, and let me show easy it is to entertain with cocktails. You can use a bar cart like I occasionally do, but that’s not necessary either. I also put out extra fruit for snacking but that’ not necessary. It’s a nice touch that you’ll learn once you get comfortable with your technique. Here’s the recipe that will give you all the details on making a refreshing Summer Sizzle.
