Sometimes it takes years (ten to be exact) and a dream home makeover competition to fix up a space. That’s exactly what happened with our wet bar. It just wasn’t very high on our list to makeover. However, winning the $2500 category of The Home Depot’s Orange Tank Competition changed all of that. This past summer, Brandon and I attended Haven Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Attendees of the conference, all had the chance to pitch their dream home project to The Home Depot. We found out during the closing ceremonies that our “Modern and Moody” wet bar project was selected as a winning pitch!

2021 Orange Tank Winners | The Home Depot
It was such a memorable moment to learn that we could tackle a space that we really do need in our home. When we first bought our home, we didn’t have a huge use for our outdated wet bar, but it was a nice feature. Ten years later, we’ve been known to make fun cocktails, enjoy wine, and collect whiskey around here. So, having a working wet bar really does make our home work smarter, not harder. I knew I wanted the space to be special in some way. The biggest way to do that was with color. I decided on a “modern and moody” theme and shopped The Home Depot’s website and in-store to pull off the project.

Because I didn’t have an endless budget, I had to re-use some items to makeover the space. In the end, we demoed everything except for the bottom cabinet and countertop. I used a black marble countertop paint kit for my cultured marble counters and it turned out great! I’m definitely wondering why I took so long to that step. It really does wonders for outdated countertops! We used paint and new gold handles to reinvent the bottom cabinet we kept.
