Do you want to entertain more but find the task overwhelming? Give entertaining with a tray a shot. Here’s how to use this simple approach with chips and salsa.
What’s time outdoors without snacks and drinks to make it more enjoyable? The “Entertaining with a Tray” series is all about taking a simple approach to entertaining, using only a tray. Sound impossible? I’ve re-created this idea many times using coffee, tea and muffins, and last year’s fall edition tray featured several simple snacks. It’s so easy to use this approach when entertaining and you’ll love it once you try it.
Today, I’ve created an awesome entertaining with a tray post that will be perfect for the upcoming spring and summer months. It’s all about the easiest party snack ever…chips and salsa! It features 2 Sisters Salsa, my homemade tortilla chips, and lime iced tea. Be sure to catch a delicious giveaway at the end of the post to win your own 2 Sisters Salsa Large Bamboo Gift Set.
Best Salsa in a Jar – Perfect for Entertaining with a Tray
On a recent grocery store trip to Rouses, we discovered Louisiana’s Original Salsa – 2 Sisters Salsa Company. As much as I enjoy making salsa, I was pleasantly surprised that the Fiesta blend of 2 Sisters Salsa was THE BEST SALSA I’VE EVER HAD IN A JAR. It was so good, we ran out of it on the very first day! This salsa has that fresh, “homemade” taste. You know the one I’m talking about. It’s so hard to convey freshness in a jar but 2 Sisters Salsa Company has done it and my entire family are fans of it.
That makes this salsa perfect for entertaining with a tray because all you need to add is chips and drinks and you’re done. In addition, you get that “homemade” taste and you didn’t lift a finger. That’s what entertaining with a tray is all about…simple entertaining. Grab a tray with handles like this Galvanized Tray, or this Rustic Wood Serving Tray and let’s get started.
Layout required items on tray
The first thing you’ll want to do is fill your tray with the required items. You’ll need a large bowl for your tortilla chips so start with that. If you’re feeling up to and have a little time, make your own homemade tortilla chips. Next, place the salsa on the tray. 2 Sisters Salsa has three blends of salsa – Cajun, Fiesta, and Jalapeno. If you think your guests would be interested, then put out more than one salsa blend.
Always look for ways to add variety when serving limited food.
If you have decorative serving-ware now would be a nice time to show it off. Pull out vintage serving-ware or other items that would work with what you’re serving. The bamboo chip and salsa bowls, from 2 Sisters Salsa, were perfect for my tray. [Win your own set by entering the giveaway below.] I’ll definitely be using these classic serving-ware pieces over and over.
Next, put a drink or two on coasters and onto the tray. You want to place drinks on the tray for display purposes, but all of the prepared drinks don’t have to go on the tray. If you need to put out more drinks, they will likely need to go outside of the tray.
Tip: As needed, it’s perfectly fine to place excess items right outside the serving tray.
Beautify the tray with garnish, flowers or accent pieces
When you go simple with snacks and drinks, the beauty of it all is in how you display it.
Flowers (fresh or faux), herbs like rosemary and thyme, and sliced fruit are simple touches that convey the love you put into entertaining. Decorative party-ware is another simple way to beautify the tray. Metallic straws and napkins give a “WOW” factor without much effort. Marble coasters protect the tray from water damage and also is one more detail that pulls the entire look together.
When entertaining with a tray, details are everything.
